Hello, I am an Instructional Designer working with an instructor who uses YouTube video clips to show examples. These clips do not have a narrative audio (no captions available) but they do have car, street and background noise not needed. It is noted that there are no captions with each of these types of videos. However, the report that is ran shows I have an error, which states: “This YouTube video does not have human generated captions.” When I click the Fix Issue-> it has a check box that says “I have verified that this Youtube video has captions available.” I can’t verify this because there are no captions since there is no narrative. I’m stuck…do I hit the button that I verified it even tho I can’t or is noting each video letting the students know there is no narrative captions and living with a gold error triangle acceptable?

Our Apologies for the delay. YuJa Panorama flags this because automated scanners can’t tell the difference between speech and background noise.
Even though there is no dialogue, it actually is an accessibility issue to leave it uncaptioned. Without a caption like [Ambient street noise], a Deaf or hard-of-hearing student can’t tell if the video is broken, completely silent, or missing critical audio cues.
Since you can’t edit this YouTube video, the best fix is to type a quick note right below the embed in your LMS (e.g., “Note: This video contains ambient street noise only and has no spoken dialogue”). Once you’ve provided that visual context for your students, you can confidently check the “verified” box to clear the error!
